Wessel Flutes

Wessel Flutes is a British manufacturer of handmade concert flutes founded by flute maker Stephen Wessel. The original flute design was developed in collaboration with silversmith and headjoint maker John Webb during the early 1980s, with production beginning in 1983.

Wessel flutes are handcrafted using sterling silver tubing and incorporate several distinctive design features, including stainless steel keywork, lightweight acrylic key inlays, and a pinless mechanism. The instruments were developed with an emphasis on mechanical reliability, responsive key action, and a handmade silver body.

Throughout its history, the company has introduced several design refinements, including the Conservatory model (1994) and the Pronomos Flute (2009). In 2019, the business was acquired by Jonathan Myall, and production resumed following the brand’s relaunch in 2023 under the guidance of Stephen Wessel.

Wessel Flutes are distributed in the United Kingdom through Just Flutes, with international inquiries handled directly by the manufacturer.
