Recipient of the Global Flute Excellence Awards Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to preserving, researching, and transmitting the legacy of Theobald Böhm, inventor of the modern flute.

The award specifically acknowledges Ludwig Böhm’s leadership in establishing the Theobald Böhm Archive, the Theobald Böhm Society, and the Theobald Böhm Foundation, as well as his continuing international educational and scholarly work. In 2025, his mission was further reflected through the 6th International Theobald Böhm Competition for Flute and Alto Flute in Munich, an initiative that brought together young artists from around the world while promoting historical awareness, artistic excellence, and the enduring relevance of Böhm’s principles in modern flute performance.

ABOUT LUDWIG BÖHM

Ludwig Böhm is a German flutist, educator, researcher, and internationally recognized authority on the life and work of Theobald Böhm, inventor of the modern flute. For more than four decades, he has dedicated his career to preserving, studying, and promoting the historical, technical, and artistic legacy of one of the most influential figures in flute history.

Through extensive research, publications, lectures, and educational initiatives, Böhm has helped generations of flutists, educators, scholars, and instrument makers develop a deeper understanding of the origins and evolution of the modern flute. His work has played a central role in advancing historically informed knowledge of Theobald Böhm’s innovations and their continuing relevance to contemporary flute performance.

Ludwig Böhm is the founder of the Theobald Böhm Archive, the Theobald Böhm Society, and the Theobald Böhm Foundation, institutions that support research, preservation, education, and international collaboration within the flute community.

Widely respected for his scholarship and lifelong commitment to flute history, Ludwig Böhm continues to share his expertise through lectures, publications, competitions, and educational projects that connect the flute’s rich heritage with future generations of musicians.
