ABOUT CLAUDIO BARILE

Claudio Barile is one of Argentina’s most distinguished orchestral musicians and a central figure in the musical life of Buenos Aires.

He has served as Principal Flute of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra at the Teatro Colón since 1984, having joined the orchestra in 1974.

His decades-long tenure places him among the most enduring and respected principal flutists in South America.

Barile has appeared as a soloist with leading ensembles, most notably the Camerata Bariloche, performing extensively throughout South America, Europe, and the United States. His international engagements include performances at Carnegie Hall, affirming his standing on the world stage.

His artistic excellence has been recognized with multiple major honors, including the Konex Award (1999, 2009) and the Konex de Platino (2009), as well as the Carlos Gardel Award in 2012 for Best Classical Album.

His discography features landmark recordings of flute repertoire, including Seis Estudios para flauta sola and Historia del Tango by Astor Piazzolla, the Flute Concerto by Joaquín Rodrigo, and works by Alberto Williams.

Barile received his formal training at the Conservatorio Municipal Manuel de Falla in Buenos Aires and pursued advanced studies through prestigious international programs, including the Karem Stiftung, the Karajan Academy in Berlin (1980–81), and the Aspen Music School in Colorado, USA. As a scholarship recipient of the Karajan Academy, he benefited from one of Europe’s most elite orchestral training environments.

In addition to his orchestral career, Barile is active as a pedagogue, offering masterclasses and recitals internationally in Switzerland, the United States, and Spain.

His versatility extends across modern flute, piccolo, and Baroque flute repertoire.

In 2024, Claudio Barile marked the 50th anniversary of his debut at Teatro Colón with a celebratory performance of Lowell Liebermann’s Flute Concerto No. 1, a milestone reflecting both artistic longevity and continued relevance at the highest level of performance.
