Sakurai Flute

ounded in 1959 by Koichiro Sakurai, Sakurai Flute is a Japanese handmade flute workshop recognized for its commitment to traditional craftsmanship, acoustic research, and innovation. In addition to C flutes, the company produces piccolos, alto flutes, flutes in D, and flutes in E♭. Sakurai is particularly known for preserving traditional seamed-tube construction and for its pioneering work with wooden flutes. Over the decades, the workshop has also explored alternative materials, including ceramics, artificial stone, and composite materials, while maintaining a strong focus on musical performance and artisanal production. Today, under the direction of Shuhou Sakurai, the company continues to develop handcrafted instruments that combine historical knowledge with ongoing research and experimentation.
