Nikolai Popov is a distinguished Russian flutist and an acclaimed soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, widely respected for his expressive artistry and stylistic versatility spanning classical, contemporary, and jazz repertoire.

He is a graduate of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and completed postgraduate studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich under the guidance of Professor András Adorján. Popov has appeared with leading Russian orchestras, including the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, collaborating with eminent conductors such as Vladimir Fedoseyev and Vladimir Spivakov.

From 2002 to 2011, he served as soloist of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, and since 2012 has been a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, performing in major concert halls and opera productions in Russia and internationally. He was the first Russian wind player admitted to the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, participating in the Millennium Tour under Claudio Abbado and Pierre Boulez.

Beyond the classical stage, Popov is actively involved in jazz and crossover projects, collaborates with diverse ensembles, and creates original arrangements. Alongside his performance career, he is deeply committed to pedagogy, regularly teaching and giving masterclasses in Russia and abroad.
