ABOUT
STEFÁN RAGNAR HÖSKULDSSON
Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson is one of today’s most celebrated flutists, acclaimed for his extraordinary artistry, emotional depth, and impeccable technique.
In 2025, he was appointed Principal Flutist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, following a distinguished tenure as Principal Flutist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (2015–2025) and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (2008–2016).
Recognized as a Performer of the Year 2024 by the Global Flute Excellence Awards, Höskuldsson has captivated audiences worldwide with his performance of Lowell Liebermann’s Flute Concerto No. 2 with the CSO — a landmark interpretation that brought new recognition to this major work of the flute repertoire.
In addition to his orchestral career, Höskuldsson is an active soloist and chamber musician, appearing in recitals, festivals, and masterclasses across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. His playing is defined by a luminous tone and expressive range, enhanced by his Emanuel flute.
