The Moyse International Flute Competition was established in 2023 through the collaboration of the New Bulgarian University (NBU) and the Italian Embassy in Sofia. Conceived and artistically directed by Prof. Luisa Sello, PhD, the competition was founded to strengthen the cultural and academic ties between Italy and Bulgaria, while promoting the Doctoral Degree in Flute Performance offered by NBU.

Dedicated to the artistic legacy of Marcel and Louis Moyse, two of the most influential flutists and teachers of the 20th century, the competition honors their pedagogical tradition by including works composed by or dedicated to them, alongside major repertoire from both Italian and Bulgarian composers.

Held annually in Sofia, the Moyse International Flute Competition welcomes talented flutists from around the world to compete in four age categories, offering an environment that combines high artistic standards with a spirit of international collaboration.
