The Kraków International Flute Competition is one of Central Europe’s most respected flute contests, hosted by the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. Established in 1989 and opened to international participants a decade later, the competition promotes artistry, technique, and musical expression while honoring Poland’s distinguished flute tradition.

Under the leadership of Prof. Barbara Świątek-Żelazna, the competition brings together flutists from around the world for a demanding three-round structure, culminating in a public final round and laureates’ concert. Each edition fosters international collaboration, presenting works from the standard repertoire alongside contemporary Polish compositions — particularly those of Krzysztof Penderecki, to whom a special performance prize is dedicated.
