New England Flute Institute nurtures musical development, performance skills and inspires artistic excellence in all our students – from beginners to emerging professionals – by offering well-rounded music education, access to learning resources and opportunities to work closely with some of today’s leading Flute Artists.

At NEFI we are committed to excellence, nurture, building community and creating programs that celebrate each individual student.

With a focus on individualized learning, NEFI offers personalized programs tailored to each student’s unique goals.

Students receive a comprehensive and engaging education, whether through in-person instruction in Sharon, MA, or through worldwide online learning, refining their sound, technique, sight-reading, and musical interpretation.

Individual instruction is complemented and enhanced by group lessons on music theory and history, ensembles, a dedicated chamber music program, working with a professional pianist, regular recitals and other performance opportunities, ensuring a well-rounded and immersive musical experience.

Located in Sharon, MA, NEFI is led by Yulia Berry, a highly experienced flutist and mentor with a Doctor of Music Arts (D.M.A.) degree in Flute Performance, Pedagogy, and Music Education from the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory. With over 30 years of performance and teaching experience across the United States, Europe, and Russia, she has guided students to achieve artistic excellence. Many of her students have earned placements in prestigious ensembles, including the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble, the New England Conservatory’s Baroque Ensemble, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Junior and Senior District Festivals, the All-State Festival, and ensembles at the Longy School of Music.

A recognized leader in music education, Yulia Berry was honored in Marquis Who’s Who 2024 and has been featured in The Flute View, Boston Magazine, The Babel Flute Magazine, Go Solo Magazine, Flute Almanac, and the Flute 360 Podcast

Complementing its flute instruction, NEFI collaborates with distinguished faculty members to offer a comprehensive music education.

Dr. Miles Fellenberg, a renowned collaborative pianist, lecturer, and ensemble/performance coach, brings extensive experience from institutions such as New England Conservatory, The Juilliard School, and Aspen Music Festival, providing expert coaching to students.

Elizabeth Leehey, Director of the New England Chamber Music Institute, is a clarinetist, chamber ensemble faculty member, and performance coach with over 30 years of experience. Her students have performed with top ensembles, including the National Wind Ensemble, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, and New England Conservatory Youth Wind Ensemble, and have won numerous competitions, scholarships, and awards.

With its exceptional faculty, innovative teaching methods, and dedication to artistic excellence, NEFI continues to be a premier institution for flute and chamber music education in New England and beyond.
