ABOUT EUGENE MAGALIF
Award-winning American composer Eugene Magalif (b. 1957, Vitebsk, Belarus) has been a prominent voice in contemporary music since moving to the United States in 1990.
His diverse catalog includes works across multiple genres, performed and recorded by distinguished soloists and orchestras worldwide.
His compositions have been broadcast on radio and television in Europe and the United States, and featured at major international festivals and venues such as Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall), The White House, and the Rachmaninov Concert Hall in Moscow.
In 2016, Magalif was invited as a guest composer to the Sir James Galway Flute Festival in Switzerland. His collaboration with Sir James Galway resulted in the inclusion of his works in the Galway Presents series, published by Keiser/Southern Music (USA). That same year, his album Colibri — recorded with the Dnipro Philharmonic Orchestra and soloists from five countries — received three Global Music Awards in San Diego. The title work, his popular Flute Concerto, later won the Akademia Music Award (Los Angeles, 2016) and the Newly Published Music – 2018 competition (USA), inspiring an international performance competition in its honor.
Magalif’s music for flute continues to resonate with artists and audiences alike. In 2020, flutist Aleksandr Haskin released Encore, a double album dedicated to his flute compositions. In 2023, The Akademia recognized his lasting artistic achievements by inducting him into its Hall of Fame.
A passionate advocate for international collaboration, in 2022 Magalif created Ukrainian Potpourri, a video project uniting 32 flutists from 23 countries, widely covered in U.S. and European media.
His author concerts have taken place in Belarus, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. Magalif’s works are published by ALRY Publications, Keiser/Southern Music, Hal Leonard (USA), and Forton Music (UK).
